The Dodgers beat the Cardinals last night by a score of 3-1 and they will be now advancing to face the Giants in the NLDS. The game was a pitching duel between Max Scherzer and Adam Wainwright and it lived up to the hype.
The Cardinals struck first in the game when Tommy Edman scored on a wild pitch from Scherzer. The Dodgers were then able to tie it up in the 4th inning when Justin Turner went deep off Wainwright. Both pitchers were taken out of the game fairly early and then it turned into a bullpen game. Both bullpens performed very well and that led to a tie game heading into the 9th inning. The Cardinals were not able to do anything in their half of the inning and then the Dodgers got the first two outs in their half when Cody Bellinger stepped to the plate. Bellinger was able to draw a walk then steal second base which put him into scoring position with Chris Taylor up to bat. The Cardinals manager, Mike Schildt, opted to put Alex Reyes in to face Chris Taylor after T.J. McFarland got the first two outs of the inning. This ended up being a mistake, as Taylor got a pitch that he liked and drove it into left field for a home run.
The Cardinals have a disappointing end to their season after they rallied off 17 straight games near the end of the season to push themselves into the playoffs. The Dodgers now get to face their NL West rival, the Giants, in the NLDS. The Giants and the Dodgers had the two highest win totals this year in the MLB, so it is going to be a very interesting series but I have to go with the Giants pulling it out.
Go Dodger Blue!
