NASCAR has announced that they plan to race at the L. A. Coliseum nest year. This is a part of NASCAR trying to grow the popularity of racing as it continues to decline. They have already started doing dirt races and more road courses and here is the next unique idea.
They plan to host this race the on February 6th, 2022 and this will be a exhibition race that will not include points. This will replace the race that is usually held at Daytona and it will be very interesting to watch since there will be very little banking and be a short track. This is just another event that NASCAR is experimenting with after hosting a dirt track race at Bristol and some road courses at Daytona, Charlotte, and Indianapolis. This may open the possibiliy of more unique events if this race has good ratings and attendance. Below I list some possible race ideas that NASCAR should think about hosting.
Racing on the Beach?
Back in the day, NASCAR used to race along the beach where they raced half the loop on the beach and the other half on the road. This would be a really cool way for NASCAR to connect back with its roots and it could be held on a beach somewhere on either the East or West coast. I am sure a city would allow for this to happen if they got compensated enough and it would probably bring in a few fans as well.
Grand Prix
IndyCar has raced Grand Prix's trough the cities of some major cities like Detroit and Nashville so why doesn't NASCAR try and do the same. Imagine racecars zooming down the street of a great American city like Los Angeles, Chicago, New York City, etc. It would possibly be a wild event that would be a must watch.
I-485 Loop Race
Charlotte is where the NASCAR Hall of Fame is located and where the race teams are located as well. So, why don't they have a race around the 67.6 mile loop that goes around the city of Charlotte. You could have the drivers race around it, and every 1-2 laps they could do the pit stops. If there is a wreck, a crew could come by and clean up the wreck before the drivers race back around. There would not be too many fans that would attend probably but it could be a really cool event.
