Thursday Night Football is off to a great start with another great game last night. The Washington Football Team defeated the New York Giants by a score of 30-29 thanks to a last second field goal from Dustin Hopkins. Both quarterbacks played well and it came down to who had the ball last, like it did last week.
Daniel Jones and Taylor Heinicke had a shootout last night and only had one turnover between both of them. Daniel Jones impressed me a lot and I think if they can get him an offensive line he can can really blossom into a solid quarterback. He also did not have a turnover, which seems like the first time in forever that he has gone a game without one. He gave the Giants a chance to win in but on the other sideline, Taylor Heinicke had other plans. Heinicke played amazing by throwing 336 yards and two touchdowns. He made a late mistake by throwing an interception that led to the Giants kicking a go-ahead field goal with a little over two minutes to play. He made up for this mistake, by driving the Washington Football Team down the field where Dustin Hopkins kicked a field goal to win the game.
The Giants missed so many opportunities that would have won them this game. They had a holding penalty that brought back a touchdown that led to them settling for a field goal and Darius Slayton dropped a touchdown that would have given the Giants a two-score lead late in the game. The biggest mistake of them all came on the last play of the game where the Giants jumped offside which gave Dustin Hopkins another shot at the field goal after he missed the first one. The Giants now have started the last five seasons 0-2 and they will try and get their first win next week against the Atlanta Falcons.
The first two Thursday Night Football games have been wild and if they continue to be that way, we will be in for a treat all season long. Next week, the Carolina Panthers will play the Houston Texans and it could be a sneaky good game as well. Thursday nights are crazy this year. Have not been able to go to bed early like previous years. Both games were great. Still not sure either of these teams will make playoffs or go far into.
