Week 2 NFL Storylines

Last week there were plenty of storylines and they did not disappoint, this week there are even more that we should watch. These are listed, in no particular order, down below.

1. Rookie QB Battle

The New England Patriots visit the New York Jets on Sunday and it will be the first matchup between Mac Jones and Zach Wilson. Both of these quarterbacks were drafted in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft and this might be the first of many matchups. These two will be able to play each other two times each year if they pan out and it all starts on Sunday. Both teams will be coming off week 1 losses, so both quarterbacks will have something to prove. I think that it will be a close game and the Patriots will come out on top since I think the Patriots defense will be able to get to Wilson and rattle him a little.

2. Can Chandler Jones and the Cardinals Keep it up?

Chandler Jones and the Cardinals had a huge first week by beating the Tennessee Titans, 38-13. They will try and repeat that performance this week as they host the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday. Chandler Jones had 5 sacks and two forced fumbles against the Titans and he is already the Defensive Player of the Year frontrunner. We will see if he can get to Kirk Cousins and cause some problems for the Vikings. On the offensive side, Kyler Murray will try and repeat his amazing performance as well. Murray was electric, running around the field and dodging defenders all game. If both of these guys can repeat this performance, the Vikings will have no shot on Sunday.

3. Chiefs vs. Ravens

The Chiefs and Ravens will always be must watch TV with Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson playing for their respective teams. The Ravens have yet to beat the Chiefs when Lamar Jackson has played and they will look to change that on Sunday.  The Ravens will have the home field advantage and are coming off a heartbreaking loss to the Oakland Raiders on Monday night. I believe that this game will be close but the Chiefs will pull away at the end as it seems like they always do.

4. NFC West vs. AFC South

The Seattle Seahawks and the Los Angeles Rams play the Tennessee Titans and the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday. Last week, the Seahawks beat the Colts with no problem and the Arizona Cardinals destroyed the Titans. This week, the Colts and Titans get a second chance against the NFC West. I think that they will both lose again and the AFC South favorites will both start 0-2. The NFC West is so strong and I do not see the Titans or the Colts beating them, especially if they play the same way as they did last week.

5. Trey Lance and Justin Fields

Trey Lance and Justin Fields both scored their first NFL touchdowns last week. They both were able to play some even with not being their team's starting quarterback. It will be interesting to see if they both get more playing time this week as Trey Lance plays against the Eagles and Justin Fields plays the Bengals. I think the Bears will continue to play Fields in an expanded role until he ultimately takes the starting job away from Andy Dalton. I think that the 49ers will give less playing time to Lance since they have a more capable starter playing for them. It will be interesting to see how both these situations end up.
