It was another great week of Sunday football with a lot of great games. There were some surprises and there were some let downs so lets explore them.
Los Angeles Rams 27 vs. Indianapolis Colts 24
The Rams start the season 2-0 while the Colts fall to 0-2. It was anyone's game down the strech but the Rams scored a late field goal and the Colts quarterback, Carson Wentz, got hurt which led to Jacob Eason throwing the game sealing interception. The Colts are going to have a huge week 3 matchup against the Tennessee Titans and they need a win badly. The Rams will be hosting the Tampa Bay Buccaneers where they will be looking to start 3-0.
Tennessee Titans 33 vs. Seattle Seahawks 30
The Titans were trailing in pretty much this whole game but the final score is the only thing that matters. Derrick Henry was running wild and scored the touchdown that tied it up late in regulation. The Titans needed this win and got it thanks to a strong performance by Ryan Tannehill and Henry. This is a heartbreaking loss for the Seahawks and their fans as they had this game in their hands and dropped it. They will look to rebound next week against the Vikings and the Titans will look to follow up this win with another against the Colts.
Minnesota Vikings 33 vs. Arizona Cardinals 34
Another great game by Kyler Murray and another heartbreaking loss for the Vikings. This game was back and forth and the Vikings looked like they were going to win it on a last second field goal but Greg Joseph missed it. It seems like every time the Vikings have a chance to win a game on a last second field goal, they miss it. The Cardinals are lucky they walked out of there with a win today but they improve to 2-0 as the Vikings fall to 0-2. The Cardinals will be visiting the Jaguars next week and the Vikings will be hosting the Seahawks.
Dallas Cowboys 20 vs. Los Angeles Chargers 17
Not the shootout that I was expecting, but it was still a very good game that was decided on a last second field goal. Justin Herbert threw a couple picks in this game which hurt his team but he kept them in it by having a solid performance outside of those two throws. Dak Prescott had another solid performance and Greg Zuerlein ended up kicking the game winning 56 yard field goal with no time left after a rough week 1. The Cowboys get to host the Eagles next Monday night and the Chargers visit the Chiefs as they both look to improve to 2-1.
Atlanta Falcons 25 vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers 48
Tom Brady has owned the Falcons in his career and it did not stop in this one as he improved his record to 8-0 against Atlanta. The Falcons had plenty of chances to stay in this one and possibly pull off the upset but Matt Ryan had two crucial pick-sixes that cost the Falcons any chance of winning. This Falcons team could be a darkhorse for the number one overall pick in next years draft. Tom Brady also threw 5 touchdowns to throw his name in the early MVP conversation. The Buccaneers will visit the Rams next week and the Falcons will visit the Giants who are also looking for their first win.
Buffalo Bills 35 vs. Miami Dolphins 0
Not much to say about this one except that the Bills demolished the Dolphins after Tua Tagovailoa got knocked out of the game early on. Josh Allen did not play well for the Bills but he did not have to do much in this one. The Bills host the Washington Football Team and the Dolphins visit the impressive Raiders next week as they both look to go 2-1.
New Orleans Saints 7 vs. Carolina Panthers 26
I like what I am seeing from the Carolina Panthers defense this year as they had another strong performance in this one. If they can keep the defensive play up and Sam Darnold can play solid, this team could make a run to the playoffs. The Saints had a very disappointing week after coming off a huge win against the Green Bay Packers in week 1. Jameis Winston did not look at all like he did against the Packers as he got pummeled by the Panthers. The Panthers will be visiting the Texans on Thursday Night Football and the Saints will be visiting the Patriots in Foxboro next week.
Oakland Raiders 26 vs. Pittsburgh Steelers 17
I had the Raiders in the playoffs in my preseason predictions and so far they have not disappointed. They have pulled off two upsets to start the year by beating AFC North rivals, the Ravens and Steelers. This Steelers team has had no offense whatsoever to start the year and they are lucky to be 1-1. Derek Carr has to be in the early MVP conversation as he has thrown the ball all over the field in the first two weeks. The Raiders get to play the Dophins next week, who could be missing Tua Tagovailoa, and the Steelers get to play the Cincinnati Bengals in a divisional matchup.
Denver Broncos 23 vs. Jacksonville Jaguars 13
The AFC is absolutely loaded and that means a good team is going to miss the playoffs. The Denver Broncos have been a solid team in the first two weeks and Teddy Bridgewater is playing great. The Broncos are going to be good this year but I do not know if "good" will get them into the playoffs. They have to get through the Chiefs, Raiders, and Chargers in their own division which will be tough. The Jaguars, on the other hand, should just start preparing for next season and and maybe another number 1 pick. The Jaguars will be playing the Cardinals and the Broncos will be hosting the Jets, who are off to a horrible start, next week.
San Francisco 49ers 17 vs. Philadelphia Eagles 11
A very popular upset pick this week could not get it done against the 49ers as the Eagles came up short. It was a defensive game up until the fourth quarter when the teams combined for 18 points. The 49ers need to stack some wins up if they want to compete in the NFC West and they have done just that so far. The Eagles, on the other hand, should be just fine with the NFC East still not being that strong The 49ers will be hosting the Packers and the Eagles will be visiting the Dallas Cowboys next week.
Houston Texans 21 vs. Cleveland Browns 31
The Texans were playing the Browns close until after halftime when they did not have Tyrod Taylor and had to look towards, rookie, Davis Mills. The Texans might not be as bad as people thought they were going to be this year and they might not even be the worse team in the AFC South. The Browns, made up for their week one loss to the Chiefs by having a solid game. The Texans will have a short turn around by having to play the surprising Panthers on Thursday Night Football and the Browns will be hosting the Bears next week.
New England Patriots 25 vs. New York Jets 6
I do not think Jets fans want to talk about this one as the Patriots absolutely destroyed Zach Wilson. Wilson ended up throwing for interceptions in his second career start and Mac Jones on the other sideline gets his first career win. I think Wilson and the Jets would like to move on from this one as fast as they can and they will try and get their first win against the Broncos on the road. The Patriots get to play the Saints who have had two very different outcomes so far this season.
Cincinnati Bengals 17 vs Chicago Bears 20
My upset pick of the week could not finish the comeback against the Chicago Bears. The Bears picked Joe Burrow off three times which got their lead up to 20-3 at one point. Andy Dalton left this game with an injury which gave Justin Fields some playing time and he ended up playing worse than Dalton. The Bears will have to turn to Fields if Dalton ends up missing some time and he will have to play better than he did today if they have any shot at winning games. The Bears get to visit the Browns and the Bengals get to play division rival Steelers next week.
Kansas City Chiefs 35 vs. Baltimore Ravens 36
The best game on Sunday was saved for last as the Ravens and the Chiefs played a classic. It looked like the Chiefs were going to run away with this one but Lamar Jackson and the Ravens had other plans. Lamar Jackson had a couple of interceptions but he did not let them define his game he played. The Ravens bounced back after a heartbreaking loss last week and now are 1-1 like the whole AFC North is. The Chiefs had a chance to win on their last drive in this game but had a costly fumble in Ravens territory and then the Ravens had a gutsy call on 4th and 1 that sealed their win. The Chiefs get to play the Chargers and the Ravens get to play the Lions next week.
